I have been a paramedic since 1993 and an EMT prior to that since 1989. I have been employed with Riverside Medical Center since February of 1993. On a day to day basis, I deal with children and adults that are sick, injured, have mental disabilities due to mental health history and patients with substance and physical abuse. I have been a patient advocate in the EMS profession. Within the EMS profession, we are obligated to advise patients of the medical and legal issues surrounding sexual assault, abuse and neglect. As a paramedic, I start IV's, 12-leads on the heart monitor, blood draws, intubate, needle decompress and give medications as needed per our protocols. With my paramedic license, I function under the Emergency Room Doctor, our Project Medical Director. On my yearly evaluations at Riverside Medical Center, I have always maintained the top rating for patient care. I have worked a flexible schedule for 20+ years, working 24 hours every third day. My work required me to be on call 24 hours prior to our shift for 12 years, meaning that if a second ambulance call came in, I dropped everything to take the call.
I have started our monthly ambulance newsletter and have been on many committees throughout our ambulance and hospital. I have been on our hospital Magnet committee, which we recently became a Magnet hospital. I have also been on hiring committees for new employees and supervisors and have started a morale committee in the past.
