established to address the HIV/AIDS - TB Co-infection epidemic in the mining sector in Southern
Africa (Lesotho, Mozambique, South Africa and Swaziland): helped draft and finalize the concept
note which successfully: addressed the knowledge gap about HIV/AIDS and TB among miners/migrant mine workers in the Southern Africa region, obtained expert consensus on
appropriate interventions to be implemented at regional level, produced analytical work currently in place to examine the economic impact of the dual epidemic, particularly the consequences of
increasing drug resistance, helped drive forward the process of targeted policy development bringing
together key stakeholders from all applicable sectors in the region, helped develop new models for public-private partnerships to address the public health emergency, in addition to generating best
practices that will be scaled up to other countries burdened by HIV/TB co-infection - Ongoing;
  • Integral member of the Health task team working on the design and implementation of a US$103
million Nutrition and HIV/AIDS project in the Republic of Malawi. Specific accomplishments
include: conducted epidemiological analysis of the country's current HIV/AIDS situation to record and forecast progress, and to identify impending threats likely to affect achievement of the project
development objectives; drafted and finalized the Project Concept Note and Project Appraisal
Document; successfully facilitated in-country technical consultations and working sessions with clients and donor partners during project preparation, pre-appraisal and appraisal, which led to a
consensus on projected outcomes and baseline indicators to be used to measure project success
(results framework); successfully completed in-country negotiations of the project with Government
  • Assisted with the conduct of an Implementation Completion and Results report (a Bank reporting
instrument) review on the successful implementation and completion of the Tanzania Second Health
Development Project. Project outcome was a major contribution to the country's broader health
sector-wide achievements in the area of HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria and other diseases prevention, a
boost in immunization rates and a huge increase/capacity strengthening of Tanzania's human
resources for health;
  • Successfully put together a World Bank Annual Meetings high level seminar that addressed the state of Health and Education services, and innovative approaches to delivering these services effectively in post-conflict African countries (with a focus on South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of
Congo); conducted a statistical analysis of service delivery indicators using the World Development
Indicators database - analysis carried out to successfully keep track of the state of human
development services leading to the region's high prioritization of the design and implementation of service delivery projects in fragile states;
  • Manage UNAIDS Unified Budget Workplans (UBW) Trust Funds to be used for implementation of health projects in priority Africa countries; put together a new grant funding request for the UNAIDS
